"AGORA:“Digital Whiteness”"

October 7, 2016 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm

Interest in understanding whiteness crosses a number of fields, from sociology to history, from art to literature, and from ethnic studies to LGBTQ studies, among others.  This intense interest in whiteness stems from its powerful position in which the racial field is organized.  The dynamic nature of whiteness invites an examination of its latest shifts in the digital media environment.  This presentation looks at several cases of the ways that whiteness functions in the digital environment from sports to entertainment to politics.  This contemporary phenomenon demonstrates the ways that whiteness never escapes its history, as it is used to address the contemporary social scene.
