"AGORA:“A Rhetorical Eye-Con: The Ageless Americana of Patsy Cline”"

November 18, 2016 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm

In this lecture, Crosby explores the posthumous construction of Patsy Cline as an idealized, feminist country music star who, due to her death at age 30, evades ageist double binds in media. Through archival research and intersectional critical analysis, Crosby aims to contribute to discussions of visual rhetoric and public memory by noting Cline’s rhetorical utility as a malleable icon/eye-con embedded in the (re)emergence of musical Americana.
