Eric English, PhD rejoins the faculty of the Communication Department

Eric English, PhD rejoins the faculty of the Communication Department this year as a Lecturer and as the Associate Director of the William Pitt Debating Union. Prior to this appointment, he served in a similar role in an interim capacity as Visiting Lecturer last year. Eric earned his BA, summa cum laude, at the University of Pittsburgh with a triple major in Communication, Philosophy, and Political Science. He also completed his MA and PhD in the Communication Department here at Pitt, where his dissertation research explored libertarian appeals in presidential campaign texts as examples of constitutive rhetoric. In addition to his experience here at the University of Pittsburgh, Eric has also taught previously at California University of Pennsylvania, Washington & Jefferson College, and Point Park University. In his new role here, Eric will teach undergraduate courses, coach our competitive debate team, and lead our award-winning public debate initiative, which aims to increase civic engagement and offer real-world advocacy training to Pitt students of all majors, regardless of previous experience in debate.
