Katherine Greener wins 2017 Undergraduate Paper Prize

The Gender, Sexuality, & Women’s Studies Program has awarded Katherine Greener, an undergraduate double major in Communication and GSWS, the 2017 Undergraduate Paper Prize of $250 for her paper, “The Art of Resistance: Analyzing the Effects of the Gaze in Manet’s 'Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe.” They received many submissions this year, so the award represents a significant achievement in gender studies.

The Committee made the following comment about the paper:

With this prize, the committee recognizes the strengths of your essay, “The Art of Resistance: Analyzing the Effects of the Gaze in Manet’s ‘Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe,’” for the study of gender. You demonstrate the painter’s revolutionary representation of the female figures in this classic painting as well as the gendered language of art and its history. The essay’s organized argument and elevated writing style are impressive.

Congratulations to Katherine!
