Professor Malin to Deliver Keynote Address for Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions

Professor Brent Malin will deliver a Keynote Address for “Emotions, Media and History: Theory and Practice,” the first symposium of the new Emotions and Media Research Cluster of the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions, at the University of Adelaide, September 23, 2016.  Professor Malin’s lecture, “When New Arguments Get Old: Dealing with the Redundancy of Claims about Emotion and ‘New Media,’” will discuss theoretical and methodological issues raised by the repetitiveness of claims about the emotional impact of various new media—a history he narrates in his book, Feeling Mediated: A History of Media Technology and Emotion in America (NYU Press, 2014).  While visiting the center, Professor Malin will also deliver a public lecture on September 22, 2016, entitled “Electrifying Voices: Technology and Public Speaking in the Early Twentieth-Century United States,” which draws on sections of his book, Feeling Mediated.
