Public Address & Argument
The department has a strong tradition in the study of public discourse and deliberation. Research in Public Address & Argument examines forms and forums of argument and analyzes various strategies for putting words and images before audiences within specific historical circumstances.
Media & Culture
Research in Media & Culture examine cultural, economic, political, and philosophical questions through historically and contextually grounded analyses of media.
Rhetoric
The longstanding focus on Rhetoric at the University of Pittsburgh has been a mainstay that combines the demands of tradition and innovation with an orientation to the world.
Rhetoric of Science
Scientific arguments and claims can be persuasive to different audiences, both within and beyond science, depending upon how they are articulated in relation to existing beliefs, practices, and controversies. This assumption underlies research on the Rhetoric of Science.
