Agora Speaker Series: “Redeveloping a People’s Movement: Power and Public Participation in Chicago”
February 8, 2019 - 7:30pm to 9:30pmChicago-based artist educator Nicole Marroquin will map landscapes of public art and resistance, from the borderlands of Tijuana to Berlin and Detroit. Graffiti outlaws operate outside of the worlds of art and activism, and yet they have the power to disrupt order and assumptions of aesthetic authority and the rights to the city. From the Chicano mural movement through the present era of rapid gentrification, resistance aesthetics and new forms of culture are part of a radical proposal for survival in Chicago.
