AGORA Speaker Series: Theodore Roosevelt's African-European Journey: On Sacrifice Zones, Culture Building, and Rhetorical Engagement--Now & Then

Theodore Roosevelt was the first American president to act as an international celebrity. In 1909-1910, the post-president toured Africa to shoot big game, build natural history, and thrill fans at home and abroad.  The safaris were launching point to a whirlwind tour of Europe where he critiqued major modern universities. This summer I re-travel his path with colleagues. Our NGO is opening a network of libraries in the Urua region of Uganda.  What opportunities of critique and reflection assemble with hybrid rhetorical inquiries? The talk set forth the possibilities of critical engagement with the sacrifice zones of globalization.
