MeTooSTEM featuring Deborah Danuser

January 8, 2020 - 12:00pm to 1:15pm

· Between 20-50% of female undergraduate and graduate students in science, engineering and medicine state they have experienced sexual harassment.

· For female faculty members in those fields, the rate is more than 50%.

· Survivors rarely file formal reports or complaints about the sexual misconduct because “they (correctly) perceive they might experience retaliation” (Kaplan and Guarino 2018).

Join us as Deborah J. Danuser (Dept. of Communication) shares her emerging research into how MeTooSTEM.com supports women in a field with rampant rates of sexual misconduct via close textual readings of key pages of its site. Carrie Benson, a Title IX specialist at Pitt, will be on hand to answer questions. The talk is part of the “Gender and Sexuality over Lunch” series:  feel free to bring your lunch and count on coffee, tea, and cookies to supplement.
