Olson presents his visual rhetoric research in Hong Kong

Boston, November 1765

Professor Lester C. Olson presented his research on visual rhetoric at an American Studies Conference hosted at the University of Hong Kong during April 26-27. His essay focused on a print series, “The Deplorable State of America, or Sc—h Government,” during the Stamp Act controversy of 1765-66. He focused on how partisans used revised versions of the political print in Boston, Philadelphia and London, where the prints had different meanings to viewers in each location during the Revolutionary era.                                                            Photo above: Boston, November 1765
