Reed Van Schenck was awarded a "Top Student Paper award" at NCA

Reed Van Schenck, graduate student, has been awarded the Top Student Paper in the GLBTQ Division for the paper "Surviving Whiteness: Fantasy, Faggotry, and the Androphile Politics of Jack Donovan." The paper "Surviving Whiteness" examines the androphile, a replacement for the "gay male" identity, as coined by neo-Pagan right-wing personality Jack Donovan. The androphile attempts to act against the feminization of gay men that Jack Donovan sees among liberal LGBT politics. Through a close reading of Donovan's works, the paper argues that the androphile's sense of community relies on an attachment to white supremacy through its universalization of imperial masculinity.
